Finding Peace in a Frantic World – an 8-week mindfulness course

Your mind is a lake.

About the course

A clear, gentle introduction to mindfulness.

Finding Peace in a Frantic World is an eight-week course based on the best-selling book by Professor Mark Williams and Dr Danny Penman, and on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). It is designed for adults in everyday life: at home, at work and at university.

It suits you if you're new to mindfulness, or if you've tried apps and want something more structured, with a teacher alongside you. Sessions are a little shorter than most eight-week courses, which makes it a kind place to begin, or to begin again.

Length
8 weekly sessions, 90 minutes each
Practice
Up to 40 minutes a day at home
Group
Up to 16 people, online via Zoom

The eight weeks

What the eight weeks explore.

  • Waking up to the life you have, beyond autopilot
  • Gathering the scattered mind
  • Two ways of knowing: doing and being
  • Relating differently to thoughts and worries
  • Turning towards difficulty
  • Practising kindness
  • Exploring what nourishes us
  • Carrying it forward into everyday life

Each week builds on the last, so it helps to attend every session. Each session includes guided meditation, gentle exercises, group discussion and time to reflect on home practice. You'll receive guided audio and written materials to support you between sessions.

What you'll learn

Practical skills for a busy mind.

  • Steady your attention, notice when the mind wanders onto autopilot, and gently bring it back
  • See how the mind creates meaning, and how that shapes the way you react
  • Step back from thoughts and worries, so you can see them more clearly
  • Approach difficulty differently, rather than avoiding it and staying stuck
  • Meet hard moments with kindness and self-compassion
  • Respond with intention instead of reacting on impulse
  • Weave mindfulness into daily life, for well-being that lasts
